Does your man look at you like this?

"Every woman deserves a man who will look at her each day like she is the most amazing woman he's ever laid eyes on."

Faux Glow

I booked my very first full-body airbrush tan 2 weeks from now, which will essentially be 2 days before I'm off to Europe for Summer vacay with the family! I'm kinda apprehensive and psyched at the same time, I've never had a spray tan in my life & have no idea what I look like tan! I have been blessed with very pale, milky white skin thanks to my Shanghainese roots, which results in freckles and burns when exposed to the sun and sneers from friends & family commenting my thighs are too bright for their eyes in my shorts! :P Hence, I thought I'd give this airbrush organic tan thing a go, since Lifebooker Loot was offering it on special for a great price!

So wish me luck & pray I don't come out orange but rather, sunkissed & glowing and ready to rock the streets of Rome!

Where did the weekend go: Double Dates

We spent this weekend with friends & cheering on J's favourite hockey team, The Canucks during the playoffs. It's nice to spend time with other couples - to see how other duos interact & the dynamics that make their relationships awesome. So the weekend can be summarized by:

  • Hockey night in NYC via Versus HD
  • Iron Man 2 (don't forget to stay till the end, after the credits!!)
  • Playing with Kelsey the Schnauzer & Mario Bros on Wii
  • Tapas & Wine
  • Saturday naps
  • Drinks @ Pegu
  • Driving around in Manhattan (for those of you who do live in the city, you'll know this is a rarity!)
  • Sunday naps
  • Hockey night in NYC & a taste of home: Bak Kut Teh!
I love how my weekends mainly consist of eating & sleeping. I hope yours was too.

Notice of change

For those of you who've been following me & blog, you'll notice that as of today - its been renamed " where did the weekend go?" - I've realised I've used this blog to note my weekends and most of my posts have been summaries of what I've done over the weekend which ends up being short for my liking anyway. Hence, I've renamed my blog to a more appropriate title and corresponding URL.

Weekends are too short anyway and this is my attempt at chronicling them and making them last :)

Lessons from my Mother

Mother's Day is fast approaching and during this time, I've been thinking of my mum more so than usual. I miss her, her anecdotes & her little nuggets of wisdom. I'd thought I'd share what I remember and love about my mum's funny, witty & delightful life and the invaluable pieces of advice I will cherish forever:

  • Take good care of skin, you only have ONE face and prevention is always much better than cure.
  • Your shoes & handbag must always match! (That was dispensed to me in the 80s & early 90s & since then she learnt that's it was ok to mismatch and I've since followed suit)
  • Never leave home uncoordinated
  • Dress/Look your age
  • ALWAYS wear nice underwear, you'll never know when you might get hit by a bus or get into an accident and the ambulance people/hospital staff will have to see your ugly underwear
  • Every woman should wear a little bit of makeup
  • Treat yourself to facials REGULARLY - its worth every penny
  • Always use eye cream
  • ALWAYS keep your expensive bags in its dust bag
  • BITE your shoes before they BITE you!
  • One can never have enough shoes, handbags or jewelry
  • Men MUST buy women Jewelry
  • Men with sloping shoulders cannot be trusted (as told to her by her mother & grandmother)
  • Don't marry a man with too square a jaw - that means he's cruel (once again, as told to her by her mother & grandmother)
  • How he treats his mother is indicative of how he'll treat you in the future
  • The man should love you more than you love him
  • Good boys do not kiss & tell
  • Always plan your wardrobe before you pack for travelling
  • Always carry an clean set of underwear & a t shirt in your carry-on bag, just in case
  • Never be afraid to use an umbrella in the sun! :)
  • Always use sunscreen
  • NEVER wear white on a plane (in case of spills and stains)
  • Every woman needs to learn how to keep house
  • Always make your bed
  • Always put things back from where you took them - that's how you stay organized
  • Plan where to put your furniture
  • You can't choose your family, so you better all get along
  • Marry the boy/girl, marry the family
  • Family comes First
  • It's mind over matter: if you don't mind, then it doesn't matter
What valuable pearls of wisdom have your mums dispensed to you? :) Happy Mother's Day!

Fizzgig!

Last night, I relived my childhood and watch The Dark Crystal on Netflix. Delighted with excitement I don't think J fully understood my passion for this movie and how incredibly excited I was when I found this on the Netflix database. As a child, I saw this countless of times since I had it on VHS tape. Noted that this movie was done in 1982 - looking back, its kind of amazing to see how realistic these puppets were and how groundbreaking animatronics was at that time.
My all-time favourite character of the movie? Fizzgig - the little furball who in my opinion is the bravest of all the characters. And how could you say no to a face like that??? If you haven't seen it already, do check it out!
