Where did the weekend go?

It's Monday again and my weekend recap is as follows:
  • Korean Fried Chicken date - we ventured to try the new Kyochon that opened in Midtown and it was a little disappointing. Small portions, weird set-up = confused but hungry couple :P
  • Paintball - because bruising is best done in groups of 16 and in combat with hardcore camo-wearing, gun-wielding crazies.
  • Capped off with Korean BBQ ala Flushing style and drinks in Alphabet City
Can Friday come again please?

Cleanse me Clean

This week I embark on my Wild Rose Herbal Detox cleanse for 12 days. I've been procrastinating this cleanse for a while ever since I purchased it in Vancouver in February from an organic grocery store. I've done a cleanse before but it's been a while, so I thought I'd give one a try since I heard good reviews on it. I've never done a cleanse which has a recommended menu before - so this was certainly going to be a challenge. Especially since many of the foods I love are on the DO NOT EAT list. So here's what I have to abstain from over the next 12 days:
Cheese
Dairy
Anything with flour (eg. bread, pasta, crackers)
Peanuts (Peanut Butter too)
Sugar
Dried Fruit
Coffee
Shellfish
Processed cereal
Candy
Ice Cream
Mushrooms
Tropical Fruit
No processed foods or snacks
Grapes
Yogurt
Anything fermented: eg. miso, wine, beer

So far, I've only broken it once - while having a fab dinner with a friend at Jean Georges' Spice Market in Meatpacking :P But the cleanse has been pretty effective so far and I'm only on day 3! :) Thankfully my FreshDirect order came in today with tons of yummy vegetables - so I think I'm all set for the next 9 days and more! Here's to eating healthy!

Where did the weekend go?

Weekends are way too short for my liking.
But this past weekend was spent soaking in the sunshine, whizzing around Jersey in a  burgundy Mini Cooper, loads of naps, too much food & a few shots of Patron with birthday girls :) Welcome back to the work week.

PS: Don't you love these bedroom photos? It what sleeping in and weekends in bed are made of.

Project!

So I've been thinking: I should totally paint an accent wall in my apartment. I've just renewed my lease on it and I'm feeling like my walls are kinda bare since they are concrete walls so hanging stuff is a pain without a drill. I'm still contemplating what color to go with, my options so far are a deep magenta, turquoise or teal blue or orange. I'm told it's fairly simple to do so I'm going to make it my project for this Spring :)
Check out this fabulous accent walls:

Time to make a trip to Home Depot!! :)

Temptation

I want Lent to be over soon because the H&M next door to my work is showing $15 off blazers and jackets and I have $50 Forever 21 birthday gift card that's calling my name...ARGGGHHHHHH...oh, and did I mention Aldo Shoes is having a major clearance and Gilt Groupe has about a bazillion things I want to buy along with Liberty of London Target line and their delightful MAC Collab?? I could go on really, because the sales just keep popping up and the shipping is all of a sudden FREE. Dear Lord, please save me from my Amex. Amen.

PS: But I have a fab boyfriend who gets me these awesome shoes for spin so I can have something new & show off in spin class tonight! HA! God is fair :D Amen.

MIA boyfriend in MIA

For the past week, I've missed my better half to the sunny location of Miami and just last weekend, we were reunited for some sun, sand and sea. After a long flight which involved a reroute to Orlando, I finally made it in - but since the weather was crappy and nothing was open, we stayed in for room service and a late night movie on tv. The next day, the sun was out and the weather was perfect and it was time to soak in the sun on the beach. It was a wonderful weekend, we caught up on our Zs and just hung out. It was perfect :)

From Miami, with Love...

Note to self: tips for future Miami visits - The Mondrian Hotel in South Beach on West Avenue. Gorgeous!!!

Bags of my childhood

I was never a handbag kinda girl. But thanks to my late mother who was totally a "bag lady" - I've grown a love for handbags and inherited some her fabulous pieces. But I like my bags big - none of this dainty, barely-can-fit-my-wallet-and-iPhone nonsense. I also prefer shoulder straps or the ability to sling my bag across my body messenger-style. I guess its the years of school that have cultivated a desire sport my bag like a school kid :P

So when I saw Giles Deacon's fabulous fuzzy monster bag on Racked - I smiled with delight! I've always loved Giles Deacon as a designer and more so, for his fantastically cute and quirky hand bags he includes in his collections. He first caught my eye during his Spring 2010 RTW collection with the metallic triceratops bags - impossible to obtain of course, because all the magazines were requesting them for editorials and no one was giving them back. Dammit! Now, with his Fall 2010 RTW collection - he accessorizes his line with a fabulous fuzzy monster bag, reminescent of Hayao Miyazaki's Susuwatari dust bunnies from Hayao Miyazaki's Totoro film and I so desperately want one!

Go Canada!

Recently I went home and saw Canada take the gold for the game we created. It feels good to be Canadian and it feels even better to be a Vancouverite - home to the 2010 Winter Olympics! Go CANADA!
